Data transmission system

All stations of the Collalto Seismic Network are equipped with a data transmission system including a router with GPRS/EDGE interface (Siemens Er75i; Figure 1), which is more reliable and has less power consumption than other models tested. Instead, for some sites in which a higher bandwidth is required, and the network coverage is poor, a more advanced router with UMTS (Ur5) interface is used. However, before installing the instrumentation, all sites of the Collalto Seismic Network have been checked, in order to verify and guarantee a bandwidth of at least 5 kB/s for data transmission.
Thanks to such communication facilities, data of all stations can be reached and retrieved via internet by our data processing center, which is located in Udine. The diagram of data transmission system carried out for the Collalto Seismic Network is shown in Figure 2.
